Each year in Vietnam, there are approximately 20,000 deaths due to poor sanitation conditions, and 9,000 people die from water pollution. Poor environmental sanitation significantly impacts the country’s economic and social development. Vietnam loses nearly 800 million USD annually due to inadequate sanitation.
Currently, 22% of rural households do not have sanitary toilets, and 31 million rural people do not have access to clean water that meets standards. This not only causes environmental pollution but also seriously affects public health, particularly women and children.
To further improve the quality of life for rural populations and effectively address common diseases caused by unsafe water sources, on March 8, 2022, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 318/QĐ-TTg on the National Criteria for New Rural Areas and Enhanced New Rural Areas (NTM) for the 2021-2025 period, emphasizing and raising the target for the percentage of rural residents with access to clean water that meets standards.
With the mission of bringing clean water to every household, the Hoa Khanh Tay Water Plant and Phu My Vinh Investment and Construction JSC ensure that rural residents have fair, convenient, and safe access to clean water services at reasonable costs. They also guarantee household and public sanitation, disease prevention, and the reduction of water- and sanitation-related diseases. The focus is on improving the quality of life, ensuring social security for rural residents, and narrowing the gap between rural and urban areas.
